"i have a question please for the multi storey thinking group. my kitchen is dark with windows facing onto an inner court yard. my problem is what to do with the floor. it is a rented space and I have a very small budget, the question is simple. the floorboards are about two foot wide and about three feet long they were varnished a long time ago. I am now needing to paint or varnish them. if i varnish does it mean i have to sand them first, or if i paint what colour should i choose. the cupboard doors are brown BTW.

  1. You need to sand the floor just to prepare it for either paint or varnish. Depends on how mad you want to go but a least give it a hand sand to give the surface a 'key' for the varnish or paint to bond to.

If you've still got wood grain you could use an osmo finish. http://www.osmouk.com They do natural and coloured stains. You can put it on by hand and reapply layers later on as required. Paint would be good to cover up the boards if they're not too pretty. As for colour a light or bright one would be good in a dark kitchen. Depends on the brown though. We mixed brown with bright green at Shine which looked great. What about a tasteful light grey?

  2. Indeed, painting or staining any interior house element is not an easy decision especially that there are different options to choose from. However, I do think that everything boils down to personal preference for their flooring Honolulu. Anyway, this is such a very interesting site where questions are answered. Nice Job!

  3. With a limited budget, one should really consider the type of project that will cost less and yet still beautify and add functionality to the place. The most important project should be established, if it is about the walls or the flooring Houston material. Thanks for shedding light to this topic.
