How to cure sitting disease

Here's an alternative, a sort of half way house, between sitting and standing.  Designed by the founder of Keen Shoes this is aimed at "saving us from the shocking health problems associated with sitting all day"

Its got upright posture for the body, angled work surface and a pivoting seat which is good for relieving static loads on the body.  There's a longer write up on the fastcodesign website.  Like all these designs you'd need to trial it to see if it works for the type of work you undertake.

Keep on rolling

We love castors.  The add mobility to your furniture and flexibility to your work spaces.  We've used them in our project to re organise the Plymouth University 3D design studios.  We've built mobile locker stacks, which act as room dividers for project group areas.

The studios were set up last week in preparation for the new term when the students will return to a radically altered learning environment. The changes are intended to improve the way in which they can be taught by providing a more collaborative space which will encourage peer learning  and integration.

You can follow progress on the Plymouth Facebook page and see more set up photos here.

Standup routine. Rachel's diary. Day 20

I've been away on holiday for a while and just returned to the office.  Crikey,  just sat at a desk and laptop for 20 minutes for the first time in a month.  Just found my shoulders up by my ears….aching

Standup routine. Jonathan nips into the office

I'm just up from the Devon office and doing some work on Rachel's computer. I'm intrigued by this standup mode and willing the embrace the change.  It feels good to start.  My body feels liberated from the constraints of the chair.  I'm not sure what to do with my legs though but the ability to move feels good.

The ergonomics are wrong for me though as I'm a little taller than Rach and my mouse keeps slipping off my improvised stack of brochures.  If I can get that right this could work.

Comfy shoes are a must.  Glad I'm not wearing my brogues.
